Rules and Regulations

🚨 Your Safety and Our Commitment 🚨

At Alta Vista Meat Co, we take the safety of our employees, consumers, and animals seriously. Our rules and regulations are in place to ensure a secure and efficient slaughtering process. Please read and understand the following guidelines:

1️⃣ DO NOT DROP OFF WITHOUT FIRST TALKING TO AN EMPLOYEE!

  • We use firearms to knock animals. If you walk in the back doors uninvited, you will be walking into the LINE OF FIRE!! To avoid any risks, please consult with our staff before entering any restricted areas.
  • An Alta Vista Meat Co Employee

2️⃣ Advance Notification for Specific Animal Conditions

  • You must call us at least 48 hours prior to your appointment if your animal exhibits any of the following conditions:
  • Injured in ANY way
  • Has a blue eye or an eye infection
  • Limps, gimps, or falls frequently
  • Is aggressive toward other animals or people
  • Displays anything else out of the ordinary physically

3️⃣ Inspector Presence for Non-Custom Slaughter Days

  • Unless your slaughter day is scheduled as a “custom” kill day, a state inspector will be present throughout the entire day. We are a fully inspected facility, and their presence is mandatory.
  • If the inspector deems an animal as a “suspect,” they will take the animal’s temperature before slaughter. This is entirely under the inspector’s discretion, and we have no control over this process.

4️⃣ No Notification for “Suspect” Animals

  • If the state inspector from the State of Kansas deems your animal a “suspect,” we will NOT contact you. It is essential to be aware of this possibility.

5️⃣ Notification for Abnormalities

  • We will contact you if your animal exhibits any of the following during the inspection process:
  • A higher than normal temperature
  • Significant abscess and/or bruising
  • Any other abnormalities that may affect the quality of meat or the finished weight ratio. This allows you to plan accordingly.

6️⃣ Bison Drop-Off Scheduling

  • Bison drop-offs require specific scheduling. Please make arrangements one week before your slaughter appointment to ensure a smooth and organized process.

We appreciate your cooperation in following these rules and regulations, which are in place to guarantee the safety of everyone involved and to maintain the high standards of our meat processing facility. Thank you for choosing Alta Vista Meat Co.
